It's okay to be unavailable. in fact, it helps you thrive

The line between work and personal life is becoming increasingly blurred. Digital tools allow us to work anytime, anywhere. But does that mean you should always be available? At Conclusion, we don't think so.

Dutch HR platform PW explored how organisations approach after-hours availability and spoke with, among others, our colleague Annemieke Brouwer, Business Specialist Occupational Health & Vitality. In the article, she explains how Conclusion fosters a culture built on trust, personal responsibility, and sustainable employability.

"We don't expect people to be available all the time, but we do expect them to make clear agreements with their manager. Those agreements can be ongoing or temporary. The important thing is that expectations are discussed and aligned."

Technology, leading by example & culture

At Conclusion, we believe technology should make work easier, not more demanding. That's why we make conscious use of tools such as scheduled email delivery, out-of-office notifications and transparent calendar information. Ultimately, however, it comes down to culture and leading by example. Managers and colleagues respect each other's time, giving everyone the space to recharge and return to work with renewed energy.

That approach does not go unnoticed. New colleagues regularly tell us how surprised they are by the limited amount of email traffic in the evenings. It is one of the reasons employees value our culture and why candidates are attracted to Conclusion.

“Your best work doesn't come from being switched on all the time.”
Annemieke Brouwer Business Specialist Arbo & Vitality at Conclusion

What does this mean for you?

When you work at Conclusion, you can expect an environment where trust matters more than being constantly connected. This is reflected in the way we work together:

  • We set clear expectations around availability and communication.

  • We respect each other's time off and recovery moments.

  • Managers lead by example.

  • Technology supports your work, but it doesn't dictate your schedule.

  • We believe sustainable performance starts with having enough time to recharge.

  • Work and personal life do not have to compete. They should be in balance.

Because ultimately, your best work doesn't come from being switched on all the time. It comes from knowing when to switch off.
